Dream team gone wrong
Dream team was once coined for the US basketball team from NBA who participated in the 1992 Olympics when basketball professional were allowed to participate in the Olympics. The team consisted of all time greats of the NBA which included the likes of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Scott Pippen to name a few.
Jer 11:21b — “Do not prophesy in the name of the LORD, or you will die by our hand”
Israel/Judah is a dream team — God and his nation — a country with a king who fears God, implements God’s law; priests to represent people; prophets to convey to the people messages from God. Every neighbour a partaker of God’s covenant and yet they turn against their own God who gives them identity and threatens a covenant partaker — Jer 11:21b — “Do not prophesy in the name of the LORD, or you will die by our hand”. These are the words by the people of Judah who did not like the message of the prophet Jeremiah from the LORD to repent of their ways and turn back to God.
This simply echos the words of Jeremiah 10:23 — I know, O LORD, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps. Only God can transform our hearts from God haters to raising banners for the Lord in every area of our lives. Lord transform us daily through the renewing of our minds.
